Our likes and dislikes

The Likes

  1. Fresh ground coffee in the morning; if not then a fresh cup of tea is just delightful
  2. A fireplace that is clear of all ash and cinders and the space around the fireplace is clear for me to work
  3. Being warned that there is a possible fault in the chimney
  4. Being recommended as a good sweep. Praise goes a long way to making my day
  5. Being greeted by a Friendly dog

 

The Dislikes

  1. Turning up on time only to find the householder has forgotten I was due to call
  2. Finding that the chimney I am supposed to sweep has a fire burning in the grate
  3. Having swept the chimney, being asked to call again to be paid. If I am required to call again to collect my fee them I might as well sweep the chimney at that time too.
  4. Being booked to sweep two chimneys, but finding that the customer has decided to only have one done. (An agreement is an agreement; if it is broken I am entitled to be paid the full fee.)
  5. Being told they had got someone who could do it sooner than me. If I'm very busy then I might not be able to do it as soon as someone else. That's fine, just tell me you have made other arrangements. Courtesy is just a phone call, it costs very little. And will save me a wasted journey and time
  6. The worst is arriving to sweep a chimney, but find some cowboy has just done it. He just happened to knock on the door looking for work at the time. What a lousy cheat. Its not the customer's fault she was expecting a sweep to call, so how was she to know? But the rat that did the job should have known. What is more he never leaves a certificate of chimney sweeping after he has left, so has the customer had it swept properly? Not very good business practice is it?
